Pro-Sweat in cooperation with Safety Workwear Shop have selected the best coolvests that exist in Europe. They protect against the negative effects of heat to your body. Heat exhaustion and heat stress are very dangerous and can be characterized by one or more of the following effects:

• sweating
• redness
• moist, clammy skin
• weakness and fatigue
• nausea and vomiting
• elevated body temperature
• headache
• disorientation

The natural effect of sweating is a fantastic feature of our human body. Sometimes however it is not possible or not ideal or not comfortable to evaporate our hot sweat and in those cases we recommend to cool your body with cool vests.

How does a coolvest function?

We have to reduce our body heat when it is hot or sunny. The natural cooling effect of our body is to evaporate sweat. If we cannot regulate our temperature we could faint and we could even have a heart attack.

Reducing our body heat is easy when the outside temperature is lower than our body temperature since heat is always moving from hot to colder area's.

Ventilation (wind or via an air conditioning system) helps in the transfer from heat towards outside.

An important other factor is the humidity of the air. When it is dry (the humidity is low) the heat transfer will again be improved.

! However when it is extremely hot and humid and when there is no possibility to ventilate your body for instance in a chemical tight suit, we have to be extremely careful.

A cooling vest simulates a situation in which our body is helped to get rid of the heat.

Contact with ice cool vests must be avoided. Suppose you see a person suffering from the hot temperature and he can not evaporate his sweat, try to cool him with ventilation of cold wind at around 14 C and avoid any contact with ice cold material! If our body is in contact with ice cold temperature, it will re-act to increase the heat in our body instead of cooling our body. The results could be dramatic.



Four types of coolvests

We propose four different types of cooling vests:

1. Wet evaporative - Soak in water and go
Only wear when you can sweat, in hot and dry circumstances.
Most easy and cost effective approach... Soak these cool vests in water and the cooling effect immediately starts.
The water is evaporated during 2-8 hours. These vests can be worn up to 55 degrees Celsius.
Easy maintenance: no Phase Changing Material like ice or gel required. Only 1-2 minutes soaking in water.
Body temperature is lowered with max 15 degrees Celsius during 2-8 hours.
Cons: Contact between wet very cold material and your body. Not possible under workwear or sportswear that is tight like firefighter or chemical suits.
USE: under workwear or sportswear that breathes / no extreme heat / 2-8 hours

2. Dry evaporative
Fill with 600 ml water and the water is evaporated to your body when your body heat increases.
Your body is NOT in contact with water or gel. This improves the comfort level.
Easy maintenance: no Phase Changing Material like ice or gel required. Only 600 ml of drink water.
Body temperature is lowered with max 15 degrees Celsius during 1-3 days.
Cons: Not possible under workwear or sportswear that is tight like firefighter uniforms or chemical suits.
USE: under workwear or sportswear that breathes / no extreme heat / 1-3 days

3. Phase Changing Material like gel or water
For use in the toughest circumstances when there is no ventilation possible eg under a chemical suit or under fire resistant workwear.
Even when it is extremely hot, or when there is no ventilation.
The maintenance is more difficult because cool packs need to be cooled in the fridge or in ice water every 1-4 hours of use.
The main advantage is the constant temperature of 13-15 degrees Celsius resulting in the most healthy regulation of the body temperature.
Cons: Higher investment & shorter use.
USE: under workwear that is not breathing like chemical protection suit / extreme heat or humidity

4. Phase Changing Material like gel or water + FR fiber
For use in the toughest circumstances when there is no ventilation possible and there is possible contact with flames eg under fire resistant workwear.
When there is a risk of contact with flames (Nomex or Indura fiber). Nomex is preferred by most official instances.
The maintenance is more difficult because cool packs need to be cooled in the fridge or in ice water every 1-4 hours of use.
The main advantage is the constant temperature of 13-15 degrees Celsius resulting in the most healthy regulation of the body temperature.
Cons: Higher investment & shorter use.
USE: Contact with Fire or Flames
