Read Jarno's tips.
Interviewer: Hi Jarno, can you tell us about your work in the port of Antwerp?
Jarno: Of course, I work as a crane operator in one of the container terminals here.
Interviewer: That sounds interesting. What are some of the biggest challenges you face in your job?
Jarno: Well, one of the biggest challenges is working with such heavy loads. We have to be very careful to make sure the containers are tight and the crane doesn't fall over.
Interviewer: I can imagine that safety is a major concern in your field. What safety measures do you and your team take?
Jarno: Safety is definitely our top priority. We wear helmets, goggles and high visibility vests at all times. We also have safety protocols for every aspect of the job, from moving the containers to operating the crane.
Interviewer: That's great to hear. Have you ever experienced near misses or accidents at work?
Jarno: Luckily I personally haven't had any accidents, but I did see a few near misses. That's why it's so important to stay focused and follow all safety procedures.
Interviewer: Absolutely. Finally, what advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a crane operator?
Jarno: My advice would be to take safety seriously and never take shortcuts. It's a demanding job, but it can also be very rewarding if you approach it with the right mindset!
