Read here about some tips that welder Mike entrusted to us during an interview.
Interviewer: Mike, can you tell us about a time when you had to prioritize safety as a welder?
Mike: Sure. There was a time when I was welding a large steel beam and I noticed that there was a small hole in my gloves. I immediately stopped working and changed my gloves so that my hands were fully protected before continuing with the job.
Interviewer: What are some of the hazards welders face in their job?
Mike: According to the safety agency investigation, welders face many risks, including electrocution, exposure to harmful chemicals, burns, and eye damage. Welding fumes can also be very dangerous to a welder's health if proper ventilation is not provided.
Interviewer: What are some safety tips welders can follow to avoid accidents?
Mike: Here are five safety tips to stay safe in the workplace as a welder:
-
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves, safety goggles and welding helmets.
-
Provide good ventilation to avoid inhalation of hazardous fumes and gases.
-
Keep your work area clean and free of clutter to prevent trips and falls.
-
Make sure your welding equipment is in good working order and well maintained.
-
Take breaks as needed to avoid fatigue and maintain your focus.
Interviewer: Thanks for sharing those tips, Mike. How has prioritizing workplace safety benefited you and your team?
Mike: By putting safety first, we've been able to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries, protecting not only us but also our colleagues and enabling us to complete projects on time and on budget. Safety is paramount in the welding industry and it is important to always be aware of potential hazards and take the necessary precautions to avoid accidents.
